"One Small Ostentation" by Olivia Beaumont

("One Small Ostentation" 5x7", 2010, oil on canvas")

A snake bird (Anhinga) nibbles at the glittering globe around her neck. Even a bird is allowed one small ostentation, no?

I first spied this jewel as a long snake-like tube of woven brass in the creative space of an artist pal, who is thebeadedlily. View the one of a kind "Ostentatious" here.
When I saw the necklace complete with prism, I tried it on admiringly, enjoying it's soft smoothness around my neck. I naturally wanted to paint such a marvel. I immediately ran to find a shred of black velvet to complete the vision, and so decided upon the lush black feathers of an Anhinga.
