Pink Hydrangeas - Palette Knife Oil Painting - by Judy Mackey

"Pink Hydrangeas"
12" x 12" x 1.5", Oil on Canvas

While visiting Japan, I noticed more of the pink, rich pink hydrangeas in the flower stores.  I've heard that the blues, purples and pinks have to do with the acidity and alkalinity of the soil the plants are grown it.  In Japan, I've heard people say that the rains make the flowers more blue.

I wanted to paint these with a warm aqua/turquoise blue background with lots of movement.  The flowers are almost abstract with all the thick paint that I've used.
