Reunited is an abstract painting inspired by my return to painting with my artist friends on Friday mornings. Painting with others who support each other is such a "kick"! Isn't this true of any activity where all the participants get why you enjoy what you are doing?

"Blue Ridge Mountain Cabin" by Diane K. Hewitt
"Blue Ridge Mountain Cabin" by Diane K. Hewitt
11x14" Oil on Canvas
My family has spent many wonderful long weekends over the past 12
years at this Blue Ridge mountain cabin in the Northwest Georgia Mountains. It is set between Ellijay and Blue Ridge, GA,
and is across the main road from the entrance to Springer Mountain, which is
the location of the terminus of the Appalachian Trail. We are not big hikers, although we have
ventured there a time or two. There are
only 3 other homes in our mountain “neighborhood”, and we are especially
fortunate that some of our best friends are our neighbors on the mountain. With hardwood trees as far as the eye can see, and views that rival the very best boasted
in Gilmer County, much of our time at
the log cabin is spent either lounging around the back deck viewing the year-round beauty of nature, or by the wood-burning fireplace on the
screened porch that we built onto the cabin years ago. I’m glad that I have finally painted this
family treasure!

Angel Painting by Judy Mackey
"I Know That You Feel Me Somehow"
8" x 8", Oil on Board
Drying on my easel right now. Yippee! I am feeling crazy happy right now. I have a two commissions for "angel walking" paintings! And the Gallery in Roswell, GA is asking for more angel paintings. So this one, as soon as it dries is headed to Muse & Co...I like the colors in this one - gray and somber with a punch of yellow/orange in the frock.

Trees In Art by Jill Saur
Dramatic and emotionally engaging, this powerful painting emanated from the depth of my soul. Filled with metaphor, this 20"x16" acrylic painting is titled, "Paso Doble". It reflects the dance of life. Sometimes the dance is soft and melodic, while at other times the dance is so dramatic, it requires the fortitude and strength of a matador.
"Paso Doble", along with a Certificate of Authenticity, can be acquired from Contemporary Fine Art International, by clicking HERE. To see more of my work, please visit my website at www.JillSaurFineArt.com.

"Simplicity"

Muted soft colors. I've been noticing in home decorating magazines and catalogs that they are displayin a vase of branches, without flowers, just simply branches. So I've painted just that.

Pinks, Monica Burnette, Oils on Canvas
I do love painting on my lunch hour once or twice a week. I've found a great empty parking lot where the dappled light is fabulous. The bad thing is that there are many empty parking lots in front of many empty buildings to choose from in the office park. Darned economy.

Country road by Diane Hooker
I have always loved country scenes
For their peaceful quality, vastness,
And simplicity.
In my quest this year to paint larger,
And a bit' out of the box' this work
Was done with plenty of paint and texture using a palette knife and brush,
In the spirit of the impressionists.
It is 16x20 on a panel, and almost
Finished!

"I Miss You" - White Flowers in a Blue Vase painting by Judy Mackey
"I Miss You"
16" x 12" x 1.5", Oil on Canvas
Today is a quiet day. It's been raining quietly, hushing the usual day sounds, even the birds' chirping is muted. That is why the title seemed to linger in my thoughts. White flowers on a dark background. There are a lot of colors in the dark background from rich warm browns to blues and grays.

"SOIREE II" by Kathryn Morris Trotter
"SOIREE II"
24x24" oil on canvas
by Kathryn Morris Trotter
This was a commission piece for a couple who wanted to surprise their daughter for her 21st birthday! How fabulous to start an original art collection at the age of 21!! Coincidentally, we have the same birthday...how serendipitous! The only request is that I slip their daughter into the painting;0!
This painting was based off of another painting of min that sold a few months ago. These days, almost 100% of my commission work is based off of paintings that have sold. As the artist, I don't mind doing something that is similar, but I have to be able to have creative reign and make changes that need to happen as I see fit. As far as my fashion ladies are concerned, I have to be able to dress them according to the personality of each lady, and it would be an absolute faux pas for my ladies to ever show up in the same dress for a social occasion...hence, you will see some of the same ladies make their way into different paintings but never donned in the same dress. They have a plethora of dresses, gowns, and outfits to choose from when it comes to a special soiree. Cheers!

SWAN REPOSE I by Cathy McIntire, 14"x 11"
Swan Repose I, Oil on Linen See my Blog |
Painting white images requires a bit of understanding of warm and cool colors, and how they can be used to show depth and dimension, giving the subject a three dimensional quality. White is never just white, and that is both the challenge and the fun!

A lovely rose as my first commission was quite the task! I love how the shadows developed to show the folds of each petal. The client was very pleased with the creation!

"A DAY AT THE BEACH" by Kathryn Morris Trotter
"A DAY AT THE BEACH"
20x30" oil on canvas
by Kathryn Morris Trotter
Tis the season......
There is absolutely nothing better than packing the car until nothing else can possibly fit and heading to the beach for a long, relaxing vacation. The beach is a place of solitude, rejuvenation, and most of all it is a place filled with a multitude of memories made over a lifetime. I could just smell the salt air and hear the ocean crashing as this scene came to life on my canvas. I could feel the soft sand in between my toes as lathered on the thick paint! Ahhhhhhh....do I really have to wait until July??

"MAMA" by Kathryn Morris Trotter
"MAMA"
Kathryn Morris Trotter
18x24"
oil on canvas
I am a MOM....
This was a painting that I was inspired to paint while missing my baby Caroline. Although she has just reached the year mark, I was imagining her in this young toddler stage in life and how I look forward to the journey. As I painted this painting, I could hear her babbling in the next room with my favorite sitter. In one sense I wanted to be on the floor immersed into her world, yet on the other hand I was savoring the peace and solitude of my light filled studio where I can create whatever I want.
The balance of being a mom and an a professional artist can be quite complex. My most important job is being a mom without a doubt, but I think most artists would agree that the energy of exiting ideas are hard to contain. They necessitate immediate attention, lest they be gone forever. My greatest pieces are usually born when that explosive, creative energy overtakes me, and I jump into my paint clothes and grab the brush. However, I do accept that there will be a time for more of those moments later on. My discipline exercise for now is to schedule my painting time and accept that "scheduled painting," which seems like an oxymoron, is better than not painting at all!
Feet on Beach, Commissioned painting by Judy Mackey

A client saw one of my little feet painting at the Dutch Art Gallery and wanted to have a special one painted just for him. This is one of them...his feet on the beach.
Fun, fun, fun to paint...but hey, what a quaint idea for marketing vacation paintings of feet. I hope others would like to have their feet painted at the beach, or some famed landmark?

Ready for S'more?
My mouth watered while painting this s'mores cupcake!
Using my palette knife made the marshmallow peaks stand out--almost like icing the cupcake! The graham cracker crumbles were challenging, but using more heavy gel medium in the paint was key.
I am proud of the look I achieved for the cupcake paper liner. I used the edge of my palette knife to create stripes using burnt sienna/titan buff, then created the "scoop" at the top of each stripe.
Oh, and the cupcake was tasty :-) Enjoy!

"Daddy's Girls" Kathryn Morris Trotter
"Daddy's Girls II"
Kathryn Morris Trotter
This was a commission piece for a woman who is pregnant with her third little girl. She wanted to surprise her husband with a painting of his three little girls. This was a joy to paint as I got to know the little personalities of these precious girls during the painting process. I just imagined the baby tugging on the middle daughter without any regard to boundaries, the middle child enjoying her baby sister, and the oldest just staying right by daddy's side.

I like hearts. Hearts and stars I think are great doodle subjects. I had these cute canvases which I bought a while back and toned them with Alizarin Crimson. It took what seemed forever to dry enough to paint on. So now I'm playing with hearts.

I was going to title this painting, Hydrangeas in the Moonlight but as I was looking at it, Nocturne seemed more appropriate. Sometimes I think I get too explicit in titles. I think the mood/feel is a better way to title some pieces. Whatever works.

"PEACOCK II" by Kathryn Morris Trotter
"PEACOCK II"
26x48" oil on canvas
Kathryn Morris Trotter
Introducing....the newest member of the Trotter family! If any of you have ever regretted selling a favorite masterpiece, you will appreciate the story of the peacock in my house that now stands at 48" tall. The first one I painted was a 20x30" piece, and I reluctantly sold it to a woman who was very persistent is having it. My first answer was, "I am sorry...the Peacock is not for sale, but thank you for your interest!" Then a follow up email of, "if you change your mind and want to sell the peacock....!" Again, I waited a bit to get back, as I was very attached to this piece. I felt as if I was giving him up for adoption! So, finally with the intentions of "painting another peacock" I acquiesced and sold it to a woman who appreciated as much as I did. Nearly a year later, this Peacock is now hanging in my den! His attitude commands all of the attention in the room.
